And you're right it has taken a long time to get to this point but let's be frank the games are more accepting of bisexual people then homosexual there isn't a single option in the game that is only male and male or female and female and while I understand this from a development point of view it is still a issue socially.Rune Factory 4 does what any spin-off game should eventually do: emerge from the shadow of the main series that inspired it. Yuri isn't the first bisexual character in fire emblem 3 houses even in fates they had some same bisexual characters admittedly they weren't great (I think it was just the one and it was weird. I was going to explain my point but I didn't think someone would get offended but apparently I need to But I think there's some context you may have missed with Dylas, which I hope could help put your mind at ease. And I definitely understand being angry at Leon-you're far from the only one. We're all products of our past, and it's easy to get jumpy around things that remind us of the dark parts of our history. I understand if experiences in your life have made you wary. Dylas takes no offense during this event if you're playing as a male character and is fine with the implication then. It's worth noting that Dylas has a friendship event wherein the two of you spend time together, and at least one person assumes you're on a date, regardless of the gender of your main character. In fact, if you google "Rune Factory 4 Valentine's Day," one of the first suggestions is "Rune Factory 4 Valentine's Day Dylas"-a LOT of people are confused by the fact that, despite it being a holiday for giving cookies to people, he reacts VERY negatively towards it. I believe that he specifically talks about how much he hates being given cookies before Valentine's Day if you're playing as the female character, Frey. Dylas hates sweets-they're bad items to give him-and he doesn't like being given cookies because he doesn't like cookies, period. Dylas also gets angry if you give him cookies on Valentine's Day if you're playing as a girl. I think you may be misinterpreting Dylas's dialogue a little bit. It is a bit of a sticking point with the fandom, and a controversial aspect of his character. You are not the only one who finds Leon's dialogue on White Day problematic.
I simply wanted to mention that this interaction is in the game so people can avoid it if they want to, and to have a little discussion. I liked the game before this and I still like it now. I just wanna clarify, I’m not here to trash your favourite game or say you shouldn’t play it. I’m not expecting stardew levels of equality in this series, I know culturally things are different in Japan, but doing away with threats of violence when my male character gives cookies or expresses feelings to other male characters should be a no brainer.Įdit: I’m getting lots of downvotes here. I just wanted to post here to warn my fellow traumatized gay people to avoid giving cookies or flirting with the bachelors, at least those two mentioned above, if you find gay violence and homophobia difficult to deal with as many of us do.Īlso, I desperately wanna play rf5 when it’s out, but hopefully they’ll make an effort to make gay people feel a little more comfortable (and even give us a romance option or two?) or I might just skip it. I’d be okay with this if there was also gay relationships possible, but without positive gay representation, the homophobia hits in not a great way in such a lighthearted game. Most male characters sort of brush it off if you give them cookies on white day or tell them you love them, however Dylan and Leon both react with anger and threats of violence. What I wasn’t expecting was outright homophobia. So, going into this game (which let me start off by saying I absolutely love!) I knew that there were no same sex relationship options and I was fine if a little disappointed with that. To hide spoilers use the following format (remove spaces).
